Initially, when this happened I'd do what I call a poicle intervention just a quick checkin to enforce the rules.Depending on the situation I would checkin one of two ways, either:1) ask the problem presenter what question s/he is answering? or2) ask the person posing the question Did you intend your question to be a closed question? If the answer is yes, I'd say thank you and leave it at that. If the answer is no, I'd ask them to rephrase it as an open question.Later when I was doing a full intervention, I would use some of the questions mentioned above. What is the quality of our questions? , What kinds of questions are most helpful? , What is the impact on the team of responding to just the question that is asked? .Happy CoachingBea
